Why you can trust a B&ES member

The 1300 member firms of B&ES, the Building & Engineering Services Association (formerly HVCA) are engaged in the design, installation, commissioning or maintenance of a wide range of building engineering services including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, heat pumps, ductwork, ventilation hygiene, plumbing, facilities services, energy management and renewable technologies.

In fact the prime driver for the Association’s name change from HVCA to B&ES in 2012 was that most members no longer described themselves as “h&v contractors” but providers of a wide range of integrated building and engineering services and renewable technologies to the education, healthcare and local government sectors, amongst many others. Importantly, B&ES is the only UK trade association that makes it compulsory for its members to undergo regular, third-party inspection and assessment of their technical competence and commercial capability, carried out by an independent certification body.

B&ES Chief Executive Roderick Pettigrew, comments, “We believe that B&ES has a duty to make sure that clients are able to differentiate between qualified and unqualified firms. We have long accepted that we must provide a workforce that is competent and able to provide independent verification of its credentials. What clients want is peace of mind that a job will be completed professionally, on time and to budget. There can surely be no better way of ensuring our members meet such expectations than our independent inspection and assessment policy, which means that all B&ES member firms can provide third-party evidence of their competence, reliability and adherence to industry standards.”
