AUDE (the Association for Directors of Estates) announces the appointment of Trevor Humphreys as Chair with immediate effect.

Trevor Humphreys is Director of Estates and Facilities Management at the University of Surrey with responsibility for leading the estates and facilities management function, in support of the university’s strategic objectives.

Trevor took up the Chair of AUDE at the 2016 April AGM and his term of office is one year. The role of AUDE, to promote excellence in the strategic planning and management, administration, operation and development of the University Estate and Facilities, is vitally important in times of change and challenges, as illustrated by the recent EMS annual report.

At the University of Surrey, Trevoris leading a considerable modernisation programme for estates and facilities which will see system improvement underpinning the efficiency and effectiveness of his teams.  Trevor is a Chartered Building Surveyor; he recently resigned his role on the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (East Midlands Region) due to him relocating from the region to Surrey. Trevor was previously Director of Estates and Facilities at the University of Leicester. Prior to this he worked for 14 years at the University of Manchester.

Trevor comments, “The University sector has faced continued change over recent years and it is faced with significant challenges in the years to come; it is our role to ensure that the facilities we are responsible for continue to be world class to draw and retain the finest students and staff from across the UK and internationally. AUDE and its members are at the forefront of ensuring effective and efficient UK university estates and facilities are maintained and that external sector challenges are seen as opportunities to modernise the estate and the services our members provide.”

“I am thrilled to be joining as chair of AUDE and I am eager to build on the organisation’s many strengths. We have been planning some changes to the AUDE constitution with the specific aim of increasing engagement with our membership and the relevance of AUDE to its members.  These changes were approved at the AGM.  I also look forward to ensuring AUDE is seen as a strategic partner with UK funding councils, BIS and numerous other organisations and partners.  I am extremely grateful for the work Sue Holmes has done as Chair and on behalf of all members wish to thank her for her not inconsiderable effort.”

Sue Holmes, Outgoing Chair of AUDE and Director of Estates and Facilities Management of Oxford Brookes University said:

“I am delighted to be handing over the AUDE reins to Trevor. He has been a very active member and wise influence in our sector for many years and he brings with him a wealth of leadership experience.  A flourishing, professional university estates sector is a key enabler of guaranteeing a high quality student experience and I am in no doubt that Trevor and AUDE will continue to guide, support and offer expert opinion in best practice. I wish him the very best of luck.”
